SMN Issues Yellow Alerts for Severe Storms and High Winds Across Central and Western Provinces

A passing cold front will trigger a sharp temperature drop with conditions persisting into Monday.

Overview

  • The national weather service kept a yellow alert for intense storms covering south Santa Fe, central and southern Entre Ríos, north La Pampa, and most of Buenos Aires Province.
  • Forecasts call for 20–50 mm of rain in affected areas, rising to 30–70 mm in Buenos Aires Province, with the highest likelihood in the Buenos Aires metro area Saturday night into Sunday.
  • A separate yellow alert for strong winds remains in effect for Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba, La Pampa, Santa Fe, and Santiago del Estero, with gusts over 90 km/h in cordilleras and up to 80 km/h locally elsewhere.
  • The SMN issued a very short-term notice for strong storms in Rosario and Constitución, and hail was reported in nearby towns including San Lorenzo and Arroyo Seco.
  • Authorities urged immediate precautions such as avoiding outdoor activity, securing loose items, disconnecting appliances during electrical activity, and monitoring official SMN and Civil Defense channels.
