SmartThings Becomes First Platform to Support Matter 1.5 Cameras

Samsung’s update leverages the CSA’s new camera spec to open cross‑brand interoperability.

Overview

  • Samsung says a SmartThings app update arriving this month will let users add Matter cameras, closures and soil sensors.
  • Camera features include live streaming, two‑way talk, motion alerts, pan‑tilt‑zoom controls, searchable event history and motion/privacy zones.
  • Partner brands Aqara, Eve and Xthings’ Ulticam are preparing Matter‑compatible cameras for early 2026, with CES showings suggested by reports.
  • Using Matter cameras will require specific hubs, including Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, Aeotec Smart Home Hub, SmartThings Hub 2018 and the forthcoming ThingsOne Smart Home Hub.
  • Samsung says the 2015 SmartThings Hub will gain Matter 1.5 support next year, following the CSA’s November release that added cameras plus an updated closures category and soil sensors.
