Smart Shows #2 Test Mules, Confirming Tiny Electric Successor to ForTwo

Smart is validating a bespoke urban EV platform under ForTwo-bodied mules at Chinese proving grounds.

Overview

  • The company released images of development mules and said the #2 will carry forward the ForTwo’s two-seat city-car mission as a fully electric model.
  • Built on the new Electric Compact Architecture, the car will keep ultra-compact dimensions with rear-wheel drive and a wheels-at-the-corners stance.
  • Mercedes-Benz is creating an all-new exterior and interior, while the mule bodies come from the previous-generation ForTwo and do not reflect final styling.
  • Global validation is underway, with work in China focused on ride, handling and braking, and additional sites testing batteries, crash safety and climate systems.
  • A full reveal is planned for late 2026 with production and deliveries expected in 2027, and media report indicative targets of roughly a 30 kWh battery and pricing around €20,000 for Europe.
