Several GOP local leaders announced their support Wednesday at the Tawes Crab and Clambake in Crisfield as Moore campaigned for 2026. The mayors of Lonaconing, Westernport and Rising Sun crossed party lines to back the Democratic governor. Lonaconing’s Jack Coburn cited Moore’s 2023 visit after the town’s water system failed, the first gubernatorial visit there since 1996. Westernport’s Judy Hamilton praised Moore’s flood response after he sought federal aid that President Trump denied in July, while Rising Sun’s Travis Marion highlighted $150,000 from Project Restore for Main Street storefronts. Moore also gained support from Washington County Commission President John Barr and former GOP officials Carl Anderton and Ed Rothstein, as he touts job growth, lower violent crime and school investments despite political blowback from budget measures to close a multibillion-dollar shortfall.
