Overview

• At about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday the FAA alerted Elgin police to an impending emergency landing by a small private aircraft experiencing mechanical issues.
• The plane touched down without incident on the fairway at the Highlands of Elgin Golf Course and caused no damage to the course.
• Elgin fire officials evaluated the two occupants on site and released them after confirming they had suffered no injuries.
• Officials have not disclosed how many people were on board or where the flight originated or was headed.
• The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation and the aircraft remains on the golf course pending recovery and inspection.
