Overview
- The six-seat Piper PA-32 departed Bridgeport’s Sikorsky Memorial Airport and went down around 10:30 a.m., roughly eight miles south of Tweed New Haven Airport.
- Pilot issued an emergency call to New York Air Traffic Control and was cleared for an emergency landing at Tweed before impacting the water.
- U.S. Coast Guard crews, supported by New Haven and Branford fire departments, rescued a 41-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl from Long Island Sound.
- Both occupants suffered only minor injuries and were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
- The NTSB is gathering information on the crash and FAA records show the aircraft was registered to a Newtown, Connecticut, resident.
