Overview

  • The First Family: Live at the Winchester Cathedral 1967 captures the group’s earliest known live set from March 26, 1967.
  • First manager Rich Romanello recorded the after-hours performance during the band’s residency at Redwood City’s Winchester Cathedral.
  • Dutch archivists Edwin and Arno Konings rediscovered the tapes in 2002 and co-producer Alec Palao oversaw their careful restoration.
  • The album features vintage soul covers alongside their own “I Ain’t Got Nobody (For Real),” with a bonus Otis Redding track exclusive to the CD edition.
  • High Moon Records timed the wide release to follow Questlove’s documentary 'Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius),' which explores Sly Stone’s impact and the band’s legacy.
