Overview
- On August 1, Slovenia banned all imports, exports and transit of military weapons to and from Israel.
- The government acted independently after EU foreign ministers were unable to agree on suspending the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
- Prime Minister Robert Golob initiated the embargo and signaled further national measures over alleged violations of international humanitarian law.
- The ban is largely symbolic since Slovenia has not issued any Israeli arms export permits since October 2023 and conducts virtually no bilateral military trade.
- Slovenia previously recognized Palestinian statehood in June 2024 and declared two Israeli ministers persona non grata for inciting violence against Palestinians.
