The milestone paves the way for track laying at the two-level hillside station ahead of trial runs planned for next year

Overview

  • NHSRCL began casting on May 28 the first of nine concrete slabs at Virar, each measuring 50 m by 35.32 m and 300 mm thick using 1,555 m³ of concrete
  • Virar station spans 425 m across concourse and rail levels, features four tracks with two platforms each, and sports an exterior design inspired by mountain winds
  • Maharashtra construction has hit key marks with 300 km of viaducts completed and 76% excavation achieved at Mumbai’s BKC station, following Gujarat’s earlier lead
  • The 508 km corridor will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad via 12 stations, promising to slash travel time and boost regional connectivity
  • Trial runs are scheduled for 2026, setting the stage for full passenger service by 2029 under the NHSRCL joint venture of central and state governments
