Skywind 2026 Update Shows Major Progress With Ongoing Bottlenecks

The volunteer remake reports strong gains, with audio, coding, and QA hurdles still blocking release.

Overview

  • Skywind, which shared a new progress showcase Friday, reported many departments in the 70–99% range yet kept the project without a release date.
  • The map is close to complete, with 10 of 13 regions at least 90% done, Zafirbel Bay about 80%, West Ashlands about 60%, and Red Mountain about 40%, and world navmeshing near 75%.
  • Voice work has about 92% of roughly 3,000 NPCs recorded, but only around 12% of total lines mixed and mastered, and the team is recruiting dialogue editors.
  • Core Morrowind systems are working in Skyrim’s engine, including layered armor, spellcrafting, an NPC class system, improved trap disarming, throwing weapons, paralysis effects, and underwater combat, and the build aims to work with popular Skyrim lighting and weather mods.
  • The team cites bottlenecks in 3D clothing art, asset implementation, programming for NPC behavior, voice-line mixing, and QA, and it is actively seeking volunteers to help.
