Skydance Rolls Out One-Time Buyouts and Orders Five-Day Office Return

The moves are intended to speed integration to meet multibillion-dollar cost‑saving targets driven by the company’s heavy post‑merger debt.

Overview

  • Company co-CEOs David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz announced the voluntary buyout program and a company-wide five-day in-office policy in a memo issued Monday, Oct. 26.
  • Eligible employees will get individualized one-time buyout offers and a limited window to accept, with reporting that many offers follow a standard severance formula of about two weeks’ pay per year and an opt-in deadline of Nov. 8.
  • Skydance said the return-to-office requirement will be phased by location and that managers will give advance notice and support before changes take effect.
  • Management has set a goal of more than $6 billion in annualized savings within three years, including roughly $2 billion in the first year, while carrying roughly $80 billion of post-merger debt and facing investor and creditor pressure.
  • The buyouts and RTO are seen as an opening step in integration that could lead to further job cuts, with a Los Angeles County study earlier this year estimating as many as 4,500 local layoffs over three years and investors watching upcoming earnings on Nov. 9 for progress.
