Skier Dies on Keystone’s Outback Run as Summit County Opens Investigation

The coroner will determine the cause of death.

  • Other guests found the 59-year-old man unresponsive on The Grizz around 12:20 p.m. on Jan. 7 and began CPR.
  • Keystone Ski Patrol provided advanced life-saving measures and moved him to a helicopter landing zone.
  • A Flight for Life helicopter transported the skier to CommonSpirit St. Anthony Summit Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the man was wearing a helmet and that an investigation is underway.
  • Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons offered condolences, and officials said the coroner will identify the man at a later time.
