Authorities say six-foot-high piles of garbage blocked all entry to Mary Notarangelo’s home, delaying the search until an environmental crew cleared the debris in February.

Overview

  • Mary Notarangelo, 73, was last heard from on June 12, 2024, when she texted about abdominal cramps and vomiting before a friend requested a welfare check on July 3.
  • Glastonbury police reports describe six-foot-tall “mountains” of trash, dead birds in cages, mice and a live cat that made room-to-room movement impossible.
  • Multiple searches by police, firefighters and a drone between July and November 2024 failed to locate Notarangelo because of impassable hoarding conditions.
  • On February 24, 2025, an environmental services crew used a small excavator to remove debris through the front door and discovered her skeletal remains within minutes.
  • The State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death undetermined, noting that the remains were mostly skeletal and could not yield a definitive finding.
