SK Group and AWS to Build South Korea’s Largest AI Data Center in Ulsan

Overview

  • SK Group and AWS will invest several trillion won to construct a 100-megawatt hyperscale AI data center in Ulsan’s Mipo Industrial Complex.
  • The facility will house 60,000 GPUs and roll out in two phases, aiming for 40 MW by November 2027 and full 103 MW capacity by February 2029.
  • SK Telecom and SK Broadband purchased the 36,000-square-meter site from SK Chemicals in April for 28.3 billion won.
  • Proximity to SK Gas’s LNG combined heat and power plant ensures a stable electricity supply and allows use of LNG cold energy for efficient cooling.
  • The project is slated to launch later this month with construction set to begin at an August groundbreaking ceremony.
