Overview

  • Security forces registered 66 Maoist surrenders on July 24 across Bijapur, Dantewada, Kanker, Narayanpur and Sukma districts in the Bastar division.
  • Forty-nine of the defectors carried bounties totaling more than ₹2.27 crore, among them senior operatives Ramanna Irpa alias Jagdish and Budhram alias Lalu Kuharam.
  • Cadres cited ideological disillusionment, internal disputes and local civilian atrocities as reasons for abandoning armed struggle.
  • Under the revised ‘Lon Varratu’ rehabilitation policy, the surrendering insurgents will receive skill development training, self-employment support, counselling and security guarantees.
  • The latest wave brings total Maoist surrenders in Bastar to roughly 1,570 over the past 18 months and underscores the weakening cohesion of the CPI (Maoist).
