Overview
- A section of the Gurugram–Sohna carriageway near Subhash Chowk caved in Wednesday, opening a roughly 10-foot-wide pit up to about 20 feet deep and triggering barricades and lane closures.
- Highway officials reported no injuries before traffic police diverted vehicles around the sinkhole on the busy elevated route.
- Officials said an ageing 1,800 mm master sewer line beneath the road failed, which washes out soil and leaves the pavement unsupported until it drops.
- NHAI said it will rebuild the carriageway after the sewer is fixed, while GMDA’s assigned CIPP relining project—now budgeted at about ₹68 crore after earlier estimates of ₹28.75 crore—still awaits internal approvals.
- The incident is the sixth collapse on this stretch since 2023, reviving fears of a major crash as residents brace for monsoon rains on a corridor that feeds the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.
