Overview
- Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune form a rare alignment tonight alongside the Sturgeon Moon.
- The full Sturgeon Moon that peaked on August 9 will wash out fainter Perseidas streaks while making brighter meteor flashes more vivid.
- A bright Perseida fireball on August 8 exploded over the Region of Murcia and was visible from more than 600 kilometres away.
- Astronomers forecast more than 100 meteors per hour during the Perseidas maximum on the night of August 12–13 under optimal dark-sky, radiant-high conditions.
- Real-time monitoring by CSIC’s Project SMART, Red SWEMN and forecasts from IGN, INAOE and NASA are guiding skywatchers with alerts and viewing recommendations.
