Six Militants Killed in Intelligence-Led CTD Operation in Lower Dir

The raid signals a stepped-up intelligence-led counterterror push in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with searches under way for fleeing accomplices.

Overview

  • Security forces conducted a joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department, district police and Elite Force in the Brichar area of Talash that ended in an exchange of fire and six militants found dead.
  • Authorities said the group had attacked the Badwan Bridge police checkpost on June 18 and that the raid targeted suspects linked to that assault which killed Constable Muhammad Ismail.
  • The CTD identified three of the deceased as Khalil-ur-Rehman (alias Saddam), Najmuddin (alias Abu Janah/Naeem-ud-Din) and Kifayatullah while efforts continue to confirm the other identities.
  • Officials reported the recovery of six AK-style rifles, three hand grenades and large quantities of ammunition and said search operations are ongoing to track any accomplices who escaped.
  • Federal and provincial leaders publicly praised the operation and framed it as part of a broader, stepped-up campaign against the group the state calls 'Fitna al-Khawarij' amid a recent rise in militant attacks in the province.
