Six Men Indicted for Cockfighting Operation in Rhode Island
The defendants face up to five years in prison if convicted of violating the Animal Welfare Act.
- Miguel Delgado, 73, allegedly hosted multiple cockfights, known as 'derbies,' at his Providence home.
- Onill Vasquez Lozada, 39, and Antonio Ledee Rivera are charged with possessing roosters and sponsoring fights in April 2021 and March 2022.
- Germidez Kingsley Jamie, 31; Jose Rivera, 67; and Luis Castillo, 35, are accused of sponsoring and exhibiting roosters in the March 2022 derby.
- Two defendants are also charged with buying and transporting sharp instruments called 'gaffs' for use in cockfights.
- The investigation involved multiple federal and state agencies, including the USDA-OIG and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
