Six Maoists Killed in Indravati National Park Encounter in Chhattisgarh

Police say follow-up cordon operations continue in the forest to prevent escapes after the morning gunfight.

Overview

  • The exchange of fire began around 10 am in Bijapur district’s Indravati National Park, roughly six kilometres west of Kandulnar under Modakpal police limits.
  • Joint teams from the District Reserve Guard of Bijapur and Dantewada and the Special Task Force led the operation based on specific intelligence on senior cadres.
  • Six bodies were recovered from the site along with an INSAS rifle, a Sten gun, a .303 rifle, ammunition, explosives, and Maoist materials, police said.
  • Reinforcements from the DRG, STF, Bastar Fighters, CRPF, and Chhattisgarh Armed Force were deployed to widen the cordon and search for fleeing operatives.
  • Officials said identities of the deceased are being confirmed, no security force injuries were reported, and the action forms part of a broader Bastar campaign that has recorded 259 Maoists killed statewide this year.
