Six Killed and Dozens Hospitalized After Fire Breaks Out at Milan Retirement Home

  • Six people were killed and at least 68 were injured after a fire broke out at a retirement home in Milan, Italy.
  • The fire started in a first-floor room of the retirement home around 11:20 a.m. local time and produced toxic fumes that spread through the building.
  • Two residents were burned to death in their room where the fire began, while four others died from smoke inhalation.
  • The cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to have been accidental.
  • More than 80 residents were evacuated from the building, many of whom require wheelchairs, while 80 others were taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries and smoke inhalation.
