Six Guatemalans Charged in Deadly 2021 Migrant Smuggling Crash

Six Guatemalan nationals, including one arrested in Texas, have been charged in connection with a 2021 human smuggling operation that led to a deadly truck crash in Chiapas, Mexico.
The crash involved a truck carrying at least 160 migrants, many from Guatemala, and resulted in over 50 deaths and more than 100 injuries, including children.
The suspects are accused of conspiring to smuggle migrants into the U.S., endangering lives, and causing deaths and serious injuries during the operation.
Authorities identified the suspects as members of a criminal organization called Los Quino and are pursuing extradition for four suspects arrested in Guatemala.
U.S. officials emphasized their commitment to dismantling human smuggling networks and holding those responsible for such tragedies accountable.
