Authorities recovered the bodies for post-mortem after immersion rites led worshippers to hazardous river and pond edges.

Overview

  • Two separate water incidents during ceremonial Karam immersions in Palamu district left six people dead, four of them minors.
  • In Bokaya village an eight-year-old drifted into the Koel river and four people who jumped in to rescue him also drowned, leaving five dead at that site.
  • The five victims from the Bokaya incident were identified as Amit Kumar Thakur (22), Nitish Kumar Singh (18), Vishal Paswan (16), Raja Singh (12) and Hemant Kumar Singh (8).
  • In Nani Jharia hamlet 16-year-old Simpi Kumari slipped into a pond during an immersion and drowned; police and locals recovered her body and sent it for post-mortem.
