Six Die in Confined-Space Incident at Colorado Dairy Farm

Officials are probing possible toxic gas exposure at Prospect Valley Dairy.

Overview

  • Fire crews responding around 6 p.m. Wednesday recovered six bodies from a confined space at Prospect Valley Dairy near Keenesburg, according to the Southeast Weld Fire Protection District.
  • Preliminary coroner statements point to exposure to a gas as a possible cause, with autopsies to be conducted in the coming days.
  • All of the victims were identified as male, with most adults and one possibly a 17-year-old, the coroner's office said.
  • OSHA has opened an investigation, and the Weld County Sheriff's Office reported no evidence of criminal activity.
  • UCHealth said three additional people were treated at a Greeley hospital and released.
