Six Detained as Forces Dismantle Border Camp Under Plan Michoacán

Prosecutors are examining seized weapons and equipment for links to the Coahuayana vehicle explosion.

Overview

  • A SEDENA-led raid in Chamila, Ixtlahuacán, on the ColimaMichoacán line involved the V Military Region, the 20th Military Zone, the National Guard and state authorities.
  • Officers seized long and short firearms, cartridges, drugs, tactical gear and other evidence, then turned the detainees and items over to the Ministerio Público.
  • Authorities said investigators will determine any participation of the six in crimes, including the Dec. 6 blast outside the Coahuayana community police and municipal offices.
  • Security officials reported Plan Michoacán results from Nov. 10 to Dec. 14 that include 213 detainees, 83 firearms, 8,866 rounds, 144 explosive devices and 11 camps disabled.
  • In separate Dec. 12 actions, troops freed two victims and made three arrests in Salvador Escalante and Copándaro, and authorities urged public tips via 911 or the 089 anonymous line.
