Overview

  • More than 80,000 people were evacuated from Guizhou Province after torrential rains submerged villages and low-lying communities.
  • State media reported six fatalities following what CCTV described as “exceptionally heavy” flooding in mountainous districts.
  • Infrastructure damage included collapsed bridges, traffic disruptions and outages of communication systems in several cities.
  • Rescue teams used boats to transport stranded residents to shelters and deliver emergency aid.
  • The floods add to a string of extreme weather events in China this month, which have also forced evacuations in Hunan Province and triggered a heatwave in Peking.
