Six Colombians held as suspects in Ecuadorian presidential candidate's murder killed in prison days before election

Six Colombian prisoners charged with murdering Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio were killed in a Guayaquil prison.
The killings occurred in Litoral Penitentiary, known as one of Ecuador's most dangerous prisons.
Villavicencio had reported threats from Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel before his assassination in August.
President Guillermo Lasso condemned the killings and convened a security meeting to address the crisis.
The murders happened just eight days before the presidential election runoff vote on October 15th.
