Six Charged Over Hammer Attack at Chermside Jewellery Store

Police are hunting a Mount Gravatt man as they probe links to other jewellery store raids across Queensland.

Overview

  • Six suspects—a 16-year-old boy and five men aged 20 to 29—have been charged with armed robbery, intending to cause grievous bodily harm and child endangerment over the June 10 attack at Shree Ganesh Jewellers in Chermside.
  • Store owner Bijaya Sunar, 38, was struck in the head with a hammer during the raid and underwent emergency brain surgery at the l BrisBrisbane and Women’s Hospital.
  • Between July 11 and 15, Queensland Police executed search warrants across Brisbane and Logan and seized items investigators allege are linked to the jewellery heist.
  • A 21-year-old man from Mount Gravatt remains wanted by authorities and is believed to frequent the Logan and Inala areas.
  • Detectives are probing connections between the Chermside offence and armed robberies in Lutwyche on May 8 and at Gladstone Central Plaza on June 13.
