Police expect more arrests from a probe powered by social media footage.

Overview

  • Queensland Police formed Operation Yankee Reacher and executed search warrants across suburbs from Caboolture to Logan Village in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
  • Police allege masked drivers blocked northbound lanes of the Gateway Bridge about 11:50pm on December 31, performed burnouts and set off fireworks before fleeing.
  • Thirteen Ford Falcons were seized, with investigators saying nine relate to the New Year’s Eve event, three were allegedly stolen, and one was linked to a separate hooning incident.
  • Six males aged 16 to 52 were charged with about 40 offences, including hooning, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and publishing material on social media, while two 21-year-olds received infringement notices.
  • Some accused also face alleged drug and unregistered firearms offences, and police are urging people with footage to come forward as further arrests are expected.
