Six Berkeley Restaurants Hit in Early-Morning Break-In Spree, Police Say

Investigators are seeking surveillance footage from businesses near the UC Berkeley corridors.

Overview

  • The first break-ins were reported around 4 a.m. on the 2500 block of Durant Avenue, where three restaurants had smashed windows and signs of forced entry.
  • About an hour later, officers found similar damage at three businesses on the 2000 block of University Avenue.
  • Police identified the affected restaurants as I.B.’s, King Pin Donuts, Gypsy’s Trattoria Italiana, Café Rio, IMM Thai and Bobby G’s.
  • A separate burglary on the 1000 block of Carleton Street is being treated as likely unrelated to the six restaurant cases.
  • Police have not confirmed what was taken or the total losses, and video from the scenes showed gaping holes in windows and shattered glass; tips and footage are requested at 510-981-5900.
