Six Arrested at Portland Hotels in Second Night of Anti-ICE Protests

Police say a noise demonstration at two Fore Street hotels led to six disorderly conduct arrests Friday night.

Overview

  • Officers responded around 9 p.m. to the Residence Inn and AC Hotel after reports of disturbances tied to protests of ICE agents reportedly staying there.
  • By about 10:20 p.m., a crowd of roughly 40 was blowing whistles and banging drums, which police said disrupted hotel guests and others nearby.
  • After repeated dispersal warnings, six protesters were arrested shortly before 11 p.m., charged with disorderly conduct, and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
  • Police identified six people, including five Maine residents, as the arrestees and said a separate, earlier Friday march concluded peacefully.
  • The arrests follow a Thursday protest at the Residence Inn that led to a summons for Brunswick resident Peach Cushing, 28, as officials continue to field tips and as a broader ICE operation with about 100 arrests in Maine draws criticism from Gov. Janet Mills.
