Overview
- The Special Tribunal granted a preservation order that freezes R2,777,866 in an ABSA account, with the order dated 3 December and disclosed on Wednesday.
- The funds are proceeds from the sale of a Copperleaf Golf Estate property bought for about R800,000 in 2018, later transferred to Tintswalo Patience Chauke in a 2021 divorce, with R2,550,000 identified in her account.
- The SIU says the SA Youth Movement NPC, chaired by Alfred Sigudla, received roughly R23 million from the NLC in 2018 for old-age homes, then diverted portions to buy properties including Copperleaf and a Midstream Estate home already frozen.
- The order bars Chauke from moving the money while the SIU pursues a review application to set aside the grant, with any criminal evidence to be referred to the NPA under its mandate.
- The action forms part of a broader December enforcement drive that has included raids and additional preservation orders linked to alleged UIF, Eskom, education and PPE fraud schemes.
