Overview

• Norfolk County marine officers spotted a personal watercraft near Turkey Point marina at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday and attempted to stop its operator
• The man exited the watercraft, ran into nearby bushes and was located by an Emergency Response Team with a canine unit
• During the ensuing encounter, one officer fired an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield and another discharged a standard service firearm
• The 22-year-old was struck by both projectiles, pronounced dead at the scene and has not been publicly identified
• The SIU has invoked its mandate to lead the investigation and the OPP has paused further public statements pending its findings
