Sitharaman Opens Farmer Training, Processing Hubs in Karnataka as Centre Scales PM-FME Push

The rollout links scheme funding, training, tax relief to expand value addition, lifting farm incomes.

Overview

  • Inaugurations in Methagal, Koppal and Raichur activated training and processing capacity, with the Methagal FT-CFC FSSAI-certified and equipped to handle 840 tonnes of mango and 600 tonnes of papaya annually.
  • Since 2020, the Centre has released over ₹3,700 crore under PM-FME, sanctioned about ₹11,000 crore in loans to micro food processing units, and trained more than one lakh entrepreneurs.
  • PMDDKY carries a ₹24,000 crore allocation for 2025–26 to support 100 low-performing agricultural districts, with Koppal among those slated for targeted interventions.
  • Recent GST changes reduced or waived taxes on farm equipment, solar power, tractors and agricultural machinery to 5% from 12%, and lowered GST on bio-pesticides, micronutrients and bio-fertilisers.
  • MPLADS funds and NABARD support are driving facilities across Kalyana Karnataka to train SHGs and FPOs, strengthen market linkages, add value to local crops and curb distress migration.
