Sitharaman Opens Farmer Training, Processing Hub in Koppal to Boost Rural Incomes

The FSSAI-certified center signals a push to formalise micro food processing with targeted funding, training, lower input taxes, replication across lagging districts.

Overview

  • The Finance Minister inaugurated the Farmers’ Training and Common Facility Centre at Methagal, flagged off its first processed consignment, and positioned it to add value to local produce.
  • Built with MPLADS funds and NABARD support, the unit is FSSAI certified and can process about 840 tonnes of mango and 600 tonnes of papaya annually.
  • She reported PM-FME implementation to date with over ₹3,700 crore released to states, ₹11,000 crore in loans sanctioned, and training provided to more than one lakh entrepreneurs.
  • PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana carries a ₹24,000 crore outlay for 2025–26 targeting 100 low-performing districts including Koppal, focusing on quality seeds, natural farming, water conservation, irrigation, and market access.
  • Recent GST changes cut levies on tractors, solar power, and agricultural machinery to 5% or zero, with lower rates on bio-pesticides, micronutrients, and bio-fertilisers to reduce farm input costs.
