Site Worker Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Edenfield’s A680

A Serious Collision Investigation will use witness accounts and footage to establish how the crash occurred.

Overview

  • Emergency services were called at about 11.20am on Monday after reports of a three-vehicle collision on Rochdale Road near the Bridgemills and Plunge Road junction.
  • A site worker in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene and a second worker in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
  • Lancashire Police say the crash involved a green Deutz tractor, a Ford Transit van and a Mercedes drop-side lorry and that the collision happened at the site of temporary telegraph-pole utility works.
  • The A680 through Edenfield was closed for several hours while a large emergency response attended, causing heavy local congestion and detours for motorists.
  • Officers have opened a Serious Collision Investigation and are asking anyone with CCTV, mobile or dashcam footage—especially anyone who saw a green tractor towing a black trailer—to call 101 quoting log 0437 of October 26 or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk.
