Heavy rainfall in the region significantly slowed the digging operations.

Overview

  • On July 29, the Special Investigation Team began digging at the Snana Ghatta site but halted operations without recovering any remains due to waterlogged trenches.
  • Labourers, forensic scientists and officials from revenue, forest and scene-of-crime departments are working under tight security with earthmovers and video documentation.
  • Three excavation teams led by tehsildars will probe additional spots today in a reserved forest near the Netravati riverbank under the SIT’s intensified schedule.
  • The anonymous former sanitation worker, operating under the Witness Protection Scheme, has guided investigators to 13–15 suspected burial locations dating from 1995 to 2014.
  • Authorities have secured permissions from magistrates, forest and revenue authorities to support systematic digs and forensic analysis at each marked site.
