SIT Recovers Pistol and Secures Custody of Evidence Tampering Suspects in Honeymoon Murder Case

Investigators are pursuing digital leads alongside a probe into a potential business motive following recent firearm recoveries

Overview

  • Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, are accused of conspiring to kill Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23.
  • On June 25, the Special Investigation Team recovered a country-made pistol with two magazines and live .32 calibre rounds from a drain in Indore based on leads from an accused tampering with evidence.
  • Property dealer Silome James, security guard Balbir Ahirwar and flat owner Lokendra Singh Tomar were remanded to six days of police custody on June 26 for concealing and destroying crucial digital and physical evidence.
  • Eight individuals have been arrested so far, including the alleged hitmen, Sonam, Raj and aides Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, all charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, conspiracy and unlawful arms possession.
  • The SIT continues to search for Sonam’s missing laptop, trace cash movements recovered from a suspect’s car and explore whether a business dispute played a role in the premeditated killing plot.
