Overview

  • The SIT has begun non-invasive assessments using ground penetrating radar at site 13 to determine the presence of human remains before further excavations.
  • Investigators have exhumed a male skeleton, a skull and dozens of bones from several marked spots, and all recovered material is now with Karnataka’s Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
  • Indravati, sister of 1986 victim Padmalatha, and other relatives have formally petitioned the SIT to exhume long-buried remains and reopen their unsolved cases.
  • Tense stand-offs around Dharmasthala have led police to file multiple FIRs, use lathi charges to disperse crowds and arrest several people.
  • Opposition BJP legislators have demanded a progress update in the Karnataka Assembly, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said he will make a statement once the SIT submits its interim report.
