Sisters Missing Since 1989 Found Alive as Arizona Renews Hunt for Slain Mother’s Killer

Familial DNA with genetic genealogy linked the women to Bakersfield mother Marina Ramos.

Overview

  • The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said DNA matches confirmed two women as Jasmin and Elizabeth Ramos, discovered in August living under adopted names in Ventura County.
  • The sisters were found as infants on Dec. 14, 1989, lying on a wet restroom floor in an Oxnard park, later entering foster care and being adopted together; one now resides in Tennessee.
  • Their mother, Marina Ramos, was found stabbed on Dec. 12, 1989, in Mohave County, Arizona, and was identified in 2022–2023 through an FBI fingerprint hit to the alias “Maria Ortiz” followed by family DNA testing.
  • Investigators have shifted to finding the killer, highlighting a 1989 witness report of a Hispanic woman in a long red skirt and white boots with two Hispanic men and a black mini pickup at the park.
  • Detectives previously released a composite of a man known as “Fernando” and are asking anyone with information to call 928-753-0753 ext. 4408.
