Sirsi Farm Death: Caretaker, Owner Booked After 9-Year-Old Shot With Air Gun

Police say an unlicensed air gun kept for scaring monkeys is central to their case.

  • Sirsi Rural Police booked Gouda, 40, and visiting farm owner Raghav Hegade, 62, on charges including murder and violations under the Indian Arms Act for alleged unlicensed possession.
  • In her complaint, mother Pavitra Basappa Undi alleged Gouda had earlier scolded the children and that Hegade procured the air gun for driving away monkeys.
  • The deceased, identified as Kariyappa Basappa Undi, belonged to a family of daily-wage workers living on the farm, and the investigation is ongoing at Sirsi Rural Police Station.
