Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the British billionaire, has agreed to buy a 25% stake in Manchester United for about £1.03 billion.
Ratcliffe's Ineos Group will take control of football operations and he will also provide £236 million for future investment into United's stadium.
Ratcliffe has reached out to Manchester United fans in an open letter asking for 'time and patience' as he aims to bring the club back to the top of world football.
The deal is expected to take between four and six weeks to be ratified by the Premier League.
The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust has responded to the news of the investment with 'very mixed feelings' due to the continued presence of the Glazer family.
