- Sir Ian Wood died peacefully at home, his family said in a statement released Monday.
- He took over the family business in 1967 and built it into the Wood Group, a global engineering and consultancy firm once valued at more than £5 billion.
- He retired as Wood Group chairman in 2012 and was honoured with a knighthood in 1994 and membership of the Order of the Thistle.
- He founded the Wood Foundation in 2007 to back agriculture, conservation and youth opportunity projects in east Africa and community initiatives in Scotland.
- The family described him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, thanked medical staff who cared for him and asked for privacy as tributes are paid.
