Overview
- On Mar 17, the telco reported a small number of customers with connectivity problems, which were resolved by late afternoon after Downdetector logged more than 300 reports.
- The Mar 16 disruption began around 10:30am and lasted more than eight hours, with Singtel saying 4G and 5G services were restored in the evening after thousands of outage reports.
- Payments, ride-hailing and food delivery were disrupted, with NETS flagging possible transaction impacts and gig workers reporting lost earnings and downtime.
- IMDA said it is investigating both incidents, noting preliminary checks show no evidence they were cyber-related, and reminded that penalties can reach $1 million or up to 10% of annual turnover.
- The back-to-back issues follow prior Singtel outages, including a $1 million fine over an October 2024 fixed-line failure and a November 2025 mobile service disruption, renewing scrutiny of network resilience.
