Overview

• Martin Bullen, a 31-year-old single dad from Wigan, suffered three neck fractures, a broken back and a head wound requiring 16 stitches after being pushed into a shallow pool on June 10.
• An army medic at the scene kept him stable until he was taken by ambulance to a Spanish hospital and then flown home on June 16 for treatment at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
• Without travel insurance, Bullen accrued £1,500 in hospital and flight expenses that his father, Scott, initially covered and which Martin is now repaying through a GoFundMe campaign.
• He is currently confined to a neck brace and can only stand or walk for about five minutes at a time as he awaits additional scans to assess his recovery path.
• Bullen warns fellow holidaymakers against making the same oversight in neglecting travel insurance after describing his lapse as a ‘daft mistake’.
