Single Bone Linked to Missing Dresden Woman as Police Open Suspected Homicide Inquiry

Forensic confirmation of the bone has prompted investigators to treat the case as a suspected killing and to seek public tips after a national TV appeal.

Overview

  • Corina Niemand was last seen on March 23, 2024, when she left her Dresden-Dölzschen apartment and did not return.
  • In April 2026 a landowner found a single human bone under the Begerburg about 500 metres from her home and forensic tests have matched it to Niemand.
  • Search teams including the SEK combed the steep, rocky terrain in the weeks after the find but recovered no additional bones, clothing or items linked to her.
  • Dresden prosecutors and Kripo Dresden now treat the case as a suspected homicide and on July 8, 2026 police presented the case on ZDF’s Aktenzeichen XY to ask viewers for tips.
  • Investigators say the recovered bone shows no damage and they are examining possibilities such as animal disturbance, accidental death, suicide or criminal action while urging anyone with relevant sightings to call the hotline 0351/483 22 33.
