Singapore’s Forging Sabre 2025 Scales Up Drone Ops With Live Software Updates in Idaho

The exercise functions as a live software sprint that delivers CCIS updates to automate drone tasking for faster decisions.

Overview

  • The 10th iteration runs Sept 6–21 at Mountain Home Air Force Base, with more than 800 SAF and defence‑tech personnel training in airspace over 20 times Singapore’s size.
  • The drone fleet has expanded to 24, including 10 Ascent Spirit, four Skydio X10 and four Neros Archer micro/mini platforms to boost surveillance, search and strike support.
  • Ascent Spirit is adapted for autonomous swarm search via a DSTA algorithm, Skydio X10 navigates without GPS and avoids obstacles, and Neros Archer is built for jamming‑heavy environments at over 100 km/h.
  • RAiD, a new RSAF software team, is delivering on‑the‑fly CCIS changes as an algorithmic combat-management feature auto‑matches UAVs to missions, cutting planning from hours to minutes.
  • DROID, formed in July, is trialling off‑the‑shelf small UAVs within a multi‑tier concept that complements manned assets as MINDEF stresses resilience to electronic warfare and communications disruption.
