Overview
- From Dec 30, scammers, recruiters and syndicate members face mandatory caning of 6 to 24 strokes under the Criminal Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 2025.
- Discretionary caning of up to 12 strokes applies to scam enablers such as money mules or those supplying SIM cards or Singpass credentials, with up to 24 strokes for serious non-scam cheating where knowledge or intent is shown.
- Youth justice changes taking effect Dec 30 allow cases involving 16- to under-18-year-olds to be heard in youth courts or sent to higher courts for sentences including imprisonment, reformative training and, where appropriate, caning.
- From Jan 1, 2026, speeding penalties increase, with 20 km/h over the limit drawing six demerit points and a $200 fine, and 40–50 km/h over attracting 18 points and prosecution.
- Lorry speed limiters become enforceable on Jan 1, 2026, with about 20% yet to install as of Dec 11 and non-compliant vehicles facing road-tax renewal blocks, remedial orders and bizSAFE audit checks, plus a planned 2026 hike of the maximum penalty to $10,000 for non-compliance or tampering.
