Overview
- The Land Transport Authority said the 20 Yutong electric buses in Singapore have no remote-control functions or over-the-air software updates and have run normally since 2020.
- LTA added that Yutong confirmed this configuration for the Singapore fleet and that any software updates elsewhere would require operator approval and would not affect vehicle control systems.
- The authority requires compliance with UNECE cybersecurity and software-update regulations and has met Yutong, BYD and Zhongtong, with further checks planned to address external connectivity risks.
- Norway’s operator Ruter reported controlled tests in underground environments indicating over-the-air update capability on new Yutong buses, a feature it did not find on older VDL models.
- Yutong disputes Ruter’s claims as technically impossible and says EU fleet data are encrypted and stored in an AWS Frankfurt facility for maintenance and performance optimisation.
