Singapore Names Nine Nominated MPs for New 2½-Year Term

President Tharman will issue appointments on Jan 8 before oaths at Parliament on Jan 12.

  • Parliament’s Clerk announced nine nominees selected to join the Nominated Member of Parliament scheme to broaden non-elected perspectives in debates.
  • The appointees are Azhar Bin Othman, Kenneth Goh Toh Chuan, Haresh Singaraju, Terence Ho Wai Luen, Kuah Boon Theng SC, Mark Lee Kean Phi, Neo Kok Beng, Kenneth Poon Kin Loong and Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari.
  • Mark Lee, CEO of Sing Lun Holdings, will return for a second term after serving from 2023 to 2025.
  • The Special Select Committee, chaired by Speaker Seah Kian Peng, reviewed 57 public and group submissions received from Oct 8 to Nov 6, describing a strong pool of candidates.
  • The cohort spans business, academia, healthcare, law and unions, with the formal Instruments of Appointment to be presented at the Istana on Jan 8 and swearing-in set for Jan 12.
